Günther Publishes on the Mascarene Giants

Albert Günther of the British Museum, the scientific engine behind the Darwin petition, published in Nature on the Mascarene and Galápagos giant tortoises, documenting how close the Indian Ocean animals had come to disappearing. His 1877 monograph on the museum's giant land-tortoises fixed the whole group in the scientific record.
