The Rail That Evolved Flightlessness Twice

Julian Hume and David Martill published fossil evidence that a flightless Dryolimnas existed on Aldabra before the atoll's inundation, and that the recolonising birds independently lost flight again afterwards. It is the first documented case of iterative evolution in rails and one of the strongest in the entire bird record.
