Eighteen Flightless Rails Are Carried Back to Picard

The Aldabra rail had been wiped off Picard by introduced cats; eighteen birds were carried over from Malabar to re-found the population. By 2013 a survey counted 2,765 rails on Picard alone, with the atoll-wide population estimated at around 10,000 breeding pairs.
