Aldabra is one of the most biodiverse places on earth - and it has the designations to prove it. These include: @unesco World Heritage Site, RAMSAR wetland (@conventiononwetlands), @keybiodiversity area, Important Shark and Ray Area (@iucnshark) and Important Marine Mammal Area (imma_network). Protected areas are one of the most powerful tools we have for biodiversity. When we designate somewhere as protected, we’re saying: this place matters more than profit. It works. But somewhere along the way, ‘protected’ appears to have become a selling point rather than a boundary. A 6* hotel is under construction on Assomption Island - 11km² of land with no protection of its own, yet sitting at the heart of some of the most biodiverse and protected regions on earth. Just 27km from Aldabra Atoll, every major designation sits at its doorstep. And 27km, in ocean terms, is nothing. Currents connect them. Species move between them. What happens on Assomption does not stay on Assomption. This International Biodiversity Day, we’re calling on these organisations to do what their titles promise - and speak out. → Take action via the link in bio 🐠🐬🕷️🦩🦈🦋🦎🐚🪸🪼🐋🐢 #ProtectAldabra #ProtectAssomption #Seychelles
