Originally a Newgrounds Flash from December 2002, mass-converted to GIF by forum users who wanted it loopable in signatures without the Flash plugin. The Flash file is 200 kilobytes. The animation is fifteen seconds, looped. The piece spreads through college dorm-room email threads and forum signatures for the next eighteen months. By 2004 it is one of the most-linked items on the SomethingAwful Forums (see [[somethingawful-image-macros-2002]]). The dancing banana is a face the forum web recognizes on sight.
