December 14-22, 1970. Workers at Baltic shipyards (Gdańsk, Gdynia, Szczecin) strike against food-price hikes. Military fires on protesters; 45 killed in Gdynia alone. Brought down Gomułka; Edward Gierek became First Secretary.
