Devil's Night (Detroit)

Recurring annual observance on 30 October in Detroit, emerging in the 1930s-1940s as minor pranking before escalating in the early 1970s to widespread arson. Destruction peaked with over 800 fires in 1984; the volunteer Angels' Night patrol programme, established 1995, substantially reduced incidents. The year given is the opening of the attested decade, as no exact first year is documented.
