A goldsmith at work in his Chinatown shop

Arnold Genthe photographed the interior trades of Chinatown as well as its streets, here a goldsmith's premises among the quarter's shops. The negative dates from his long Chinatown project, begun in 1896 and continued for decades. The Library of Congress holds the Genthe Collection from which it comes.
