The clipper Glory of the Seas painted off Fort Mason

William Alexander Coulter painted the clipper ship Glory of the Seas under sail off Fort Mason in San Francisco Bay. Coulter was the city's foremost marine painter and worked from the waterfront for decades, recording vessels that called at the port. The ship itself dated from 1869 and was still working the Pacific coast when this was made.
