June 11, 1955. Pierre Levegh's Mercedes 300SLR launches into the crowd at Le Mans. 84 dead, 180 injured. Worst motorsport accident in history. Mercedes withdraws from racing for 33 years. Switzerland bans circuit racing entirely (until 2024).
