This is how we arrived at the shelter this morning... with a dog tied to a tree in our courtyard. π’ The poor animal probably spent all night in the rain, with food soaked left behind by its 'owner'. Unfortunately, this is not the first time we have encountered this problem. In the past 10 days we have already taken in 4 dogs that were found and not picked up or simply dumped. These irresponsible actions have serious consequences for the dog. This treasure is required to stay in our shelter for 14 days, in the hope that we can find a trace of the person who left them here. Unfortunately, the dog is then released for adoption without any background information. This forces us to tighten up our adoption process as we don't want to take any chances with their well-being. We want to emphasize: an animal is not an object that you can just throw away. Sometimes there may be situations where distancing from a pet is necessary, and that's understandable. We encourage people to responsibly dispose of their pets so that we can help them find new loving homes. Tying up animals in such a disrespectful manner limits their chances of a suitable adoption. Moreover, it does not help shelters in their important work. Let's all create awareness and put animal welfare first. - Dierenasiel Gent.
