A UNESCO World Heritage site in under threat and this is the week we can demand that UNESCO speaks up 🔈‼️ Aldabra Atoll, a coral ecosystem in the outer islands of Seychelles, has been under severe threat for 2 years. A Qatari-funded @rosewoodhotels has been bulldozing neighbouring Assomption Island, and local and international scientists and conservationists have been sounding the alarm for YEARS. Since the very beginning, we have been contacting @unesco @unescoworldheritage to support our on-the-ground and global efforts. We’ve asked them to speak up in support, to take action, to do something…ANYTHING! But they’ve been completely silent about the inevitable destruction of one of their most precious sites, which homes 400 species found nowhere else in the world. This week, UNESCO is meeting in Busan, South Korea for their annual World Heritage committee meeting. We reached out asking for them to add Aldabra to their agenda. They refused. Make some noise. Help us DEMAND that @unesco take a public stance on this hotel development. They boast about their engagement with youth voices, about how destruction of world heritage is a CRIME and perpetrators should be held accountable. And yet here we are. TAKE ACTION: Let’s keep the pressure on with @chilli.app 🌶️ Comment below and we’ll DM you a link to make a real difference. #ProtectAldabra #ProtectAssomption #ProtectSeychelles #UNESCO #WorldHeritage
