Jabir ibn Hayyan (Latinised "Geber") gives his name to an enormous Arabic technical corpus that founds systematic alchemy: the sulfur-mercury theory of metals, detailed laboratory procedures, and the elixir. His "balance" theory shaped chemistry for centuries.
