Spanish presidio above the entrance to the bay

A lithograph by Victor Adam after a drawing by Louis Choris, made for the illustrated account of a round-the-world voyage and held by the New York Public Library. It shows the Spanish colonial garrison and the strait later named the Golden Gate, decades before American settlement.
