Cuneiform Tablets at Uruk

The earliest known writing — proto-cuneiform pictographs pressed into wet clay with a reed stylus, found in the Eanna temple precinct at Uruk in southern Mesopotamia. Used initially to record beer rations, grain inventories, and temple offerings. The script will evolve and dominate the Near East for 3,000 years.
