First U.S. Commercial TV Broadcast

On 1 July 1941 WNBT (later WNBC) in New York airs the first legal U.S. television commercial — a ten-second Bulova watch spot — after the FCC authorises commercial TV. The advertising-funded broadcast-television business model begins.
