Senefelder Invents Lithography

Bavarian playwright Alois Senefelder, looking for a cheap way to print his own scripts, discovers that grease-treated limestone will accept oil-based ink only where the grease is. The technique becomes the dominant illustration printing method of the 19th century and the direct ancestor of offset printing.
