She holds a cum-laude MSc in Astronomy from Leiden University (2011), declined a PhD to pursue applied creative work, and shifted from data-science consulting into independent visualization practice as Visual Cinnamon. Her co-authored book Data Sketches (with Shirley Wu, AK Peters, 2017) and her commissions for Scientific American, the Google News Lab, UNESCO, and The New York Times constitute one of the more decorated bodies of work in twenty-first-century data art outside of the on-chain market. Rotae, released on Art Blocks in 2022 as a 529-edition long-form work, is the piece that translated that visualization practice into the generative-NFT idiom. The algorithm is mathematically a Spirograph: circles rotating on circles, three to eight wheels deep, producing the looping epitrochoid and hypotrochoid curves familiar from the children's drawing toy and from much earlier nineteenth-century guilloché engraving. The renderer is roughly 11kB inscribed on-chain; the deterministic process is keyed entirely to the transaction hash. The piece reads as a formal study — the circle-on-circle mechanism is venerable, the algorithm is small, the outputs are consequential despite the constraint set. The argument the work makes inside its catalogue is partly about lineage: data visualization has been the discipline through which generative practice reached the largest non-art-world audiences (newsroom, science journalism, branding) for twenty years. Rotae claims that lineage explicitly for the on-chain field, in much the same way that Anne Spalter's work claimed academic computer-graphics lineage and Casey Reas's work claimed software-art lineage. Bremer continues to publish across the data-visualization field — her 2024 book CHART (Routledge) anthologizes contemporary data-art practice, she received a 2017 Information is Beautiful Best Individual award and a 2026 Webby for data visualization, and she has done specialized work including the Axiom Space Ax-2 mission NFT collection (2023). Lore Bremer was on Art Blocks's curation jury before she released Rotae, which is part of why the piece reads with the discipline it does — the constraint set was designed by an artist who had been evaluating other artists' constraint sets at the platform's gatekeeping level. She has been openly critical of generative-art's 2021–22 maximalist tendencies and has argued that the smaller, more deterministic systems (Spirograph among them) deserve as much attention as the flow-field and noise-driven work that defined the boom.
