Goebbels and the cult of the leader
JAN 18 2007
A clip from The Goebbels Experiment, First Run Features' release of Lutz Hachmeister's documentary built from Goebbels' own diaries, in which he describes how Hitler's personal authority was pushed through the party's media machine. The technique is the personality cult: concentrating an entire programme into one figure so that loyalty replaces argument and opponents are addressed with intimidation rather than persuasion. Goebbels' assessments of his own work are claims made by a propagandist, not descriptions of fact.
