Eisenstein and Vertov
FEB 04 2016
A student documentary on Sergei Eisenstein and Dziga Vertov, the two filmmakers whose experiments defined early Soviet cinema. Both worked inside a state that treated film as its main instrument for reaching a mass audience, and both developed editing systems intended to produce a conclusion in the viewer rather than to record an event. The film-school vocabulary that came out of that work is still the vocabulary of persuasion on screen.
