The wartime carrot myth

A short account of the British claim during the Second World War that carrots improved night vision. The story served to explain away the true reason for improved night interceptions, airborne radar, while also promoting a vegetable that was not rationed. It is a compact example of a cover story that outlived the war and became folk belief.
