Crown Film Unit and Ministry of Information shorts from the first months of the war, held by the National Archives. The method is instruction disguised as neighbourly advice: blackout drill, gas masks and careless talk delivered in a conversational register that makes compliance feel like common sense. By making household routine into war work, the films recruited civilians without ever asking them for anything grand.
