Reading a North Korean propaganda film
DEC 09 2023
An analysis of the North Korean feature Order Number 27, used as a case study in how the state's cinema is constructed. The commentary picks out the conventions, including the invincible collective hero and the enemy rendered as caricature, and explains what domestic audiences were meant to take from them. The film's assertions about history are treated as the state's assertions.
