The Vlora War expels Italy from mainland Albania

The Vlora War ran from 4 June to 2 August 1920, in which Albanian nationalists drove Italian forces from the Vlorë region. Italy abandoned its claims on mainland Albania, retaining only the island of Sazan, in an agreement signed on 2 August 1920. The Congress of Lushnjë, at which Zogu was a delegate, had authorised armed resistance six months earlier. Zogu was not a commander in the Vlora War; his connection is through the Lushnjë congress that authorised resistance. It is context for his rise, not an episode in his military career.
