The long wandering: Romania, Poland, Latvia, Scandinavia, Belgium, Paris
1939
After Istanbul the exiled family moved through Romania, Poland, Latvia, Sweden, Norway and Belgium before reaching Paris. The route was dictated by the advance of the war, each stop becoming unsafe in turn. No state offered them a permanent home in this period. The sources list the countries but give no dates for individual legs; the sequence should not be presented with confident month-level dating.
