Detained in Vienna

From 1917 to 1918 Zogu was held in Vienna by the Austro-Hungarian authorities, having become a liability rather than an asset to them. The period exposed him to a European capital and its politics at close range. He was subsequently held in Rome from 1918 to 1919. Popular accounts describe this as a glamorous Viennese sojourn in which he acquired cosmopolitan tastes. The sources describe detention, not residence, and say nothing verifiable about his social life there.
