Reddit opened a 1000x1000 blank canvas on which any registered user could change one pixel's colour from a 16-colour palette, then wait five minutes. Over a million users placed roughly 16 million pixels across three days, with communities organising into alliances, defending territory and building the emergent artwork collaboratively. Conceived by Josh Wardle, it is regarded as the most successful April Fools experiment in Reddit's history.
