The Mets ran an online poll to choose an eighth-inning sing-along song for Shea Stadium and left a blank write-in field. Fark.com and other communities flooded it with 'Never Gonna Give You Up', and the team announced on 7 April that Astley had won with more than five million votes. The song was played at the home opener rather than adopted as the standard.
