ABC: the stolen lion of the Congress of Deputies

On 28 December 1907 ABC ran a half-page photomontage showing the façade of the Spanish Congress of Deputies missing one of its bronze lions, claiming it had been stolen overnight by 'devoted followers of Caco', Cacus, the thief of Roman myth, and Spanish slang for burglars. It is the third year running of ABC's inocentada and shows photographic manipulation was already an established tool of the Spanish press hoax.
