Els Enfarinats - the flour-fight mock coup, revived

Els Enfarinats ceased at the end of the 1950s and was recovered in 1981, reconfigured around the flour, egg and firecracker battle staged today. Every 28 December participants in mock military dress stage a coup d'état, seizing the mayor's office at 8am under the slogan 'Nova Justícia' and imposing absurd laws, while a rival faction fights to restore order. Fines are donated to charity. 'Enfarinats' is Valencian for 'the floured ones'. A recurring annual custom.
