Archaeoraptor is exposed as a composite fossil
1999
National Geographic presented Archaeoraptor as a feathered dinosaur linking birds to theropods. It was a forgery assembled in China from the tail of one animal and the body of another, and the magazine retracted it. The underlying science was not wrong, feathered dinosaurs are real, which is what made a fake so easy to place.
