MTV Europe Music Awards: Best Act Ever

An organised online campaign delivered Astley roughly 100 million votes for the 'Best Act Ever' award at the 2008 MTV EMAs in Liverpool, beating U2, Britney Spears and The Beatles. Astley did not attend, issuing a statement thanking those who voted. It was the largest institutional rickroll to date, aimed at an awards show rather than an individual.
