r/place runs in July amid the API revolt

Reddit ran r/place a third time from 20 to 24 July 2023, breaking with the April Fools tradition entirely. It launched during the Reddit API pricing controversy, and large parts of the canvas were used to protest the company, with anti-Reddit slogans and support for third-party apps. Reddit closed the canvas early after protest imagery dominated it, making the final revival of its most celebrated experiment also its most hostile.
