Mistick Krewe of Comus - first New Orleans Mardi Gras parade

The Mistick Krewe of Comus was founded in 1856 and staged its first torchlit night parade on 24 February 1857, themed 'The Demon Actors in Milton's Paradise Lost'. This established the recurring annual krewe parade that defines New Orleans Mardi Gras, and Comus paraded near-continuously from 1856 to 1991.
