Israel Radio reports the death of Nabih Berri

In 1986 an Israeli army intelligence officer planted a false report on Israel Radio that Nabih Berri, leader of the Shi'ite Amal movement in Lebanon, had been assassinated. The hoax triggered immediate regional tension and was picked up by Lebanese state radio before both stations retracted. Defence Minister Yitzhak Rabin announced the unnamed officer would face court martial. It is a documented case of an April Fools' prank inside a military intelligence service reaching international news.
