On 18 May 2016 Jesse Wellens and Jeana Smith announced they were placing their relationship on hiatus and stepping back from daily vlogging, citing relationship problems and the stress of the upload schedule. Wellens described YouTube as 'toxic' for the relationship. Their combined channels held roughly 20 million subscribers; the breakup exposed the structural problem of a genre whose product was the creators' own private life.
