Blackout Challenge wrongful death lawsuits against TikTok

On 5 July 2022 the Social Media Victims Law Center filed wrongful death suits over the deaths of two girls, aged 8 and 9, who died by accidental self-strangulation while attempting a self-choking challenge. The complaints allege TikTok's recommendation algorithm repeatedly pushed the content into the children's feeds and that the product was defectively designed. A Bloomberg investigation reported the challenge had been linked to the deaths of at least 20 children in 18 months.
